On Saturday, November 16th, buses full of Needham fans arrived at Worcester State University for the Division 1 State Volleyball Championship. Six years ago, the team had a record of 0-20, but the team has come a long way since then. The athletes worked with strength, trust, and commitment, and their bond is what eventually made them so successful. One athlete, Ellie Streeper, explained she thought one of their strengths was that “[they] never tore each other down… [They] all knew mistakes were part of the game, and that [they] had to have each other’s back.” Their strong bond and trust were part of what made the team so successful.
The support of the community also contributed to the win. The overwhelming amount of Needham fans and parents that attended their games really helped the athletes’ mentally to the point where the crowd size for Needham never failed to outshine the opposing team’s! They showed up in whiteout, blackout, and dig pink outfits, and were always constantly positive and supportive. The success of the team was not only due to the strong connections between the athletes, but the support of the community contributed to their overall success.
The team came a long way and put a ton of hard work and dedication into winning the state title. It is an example of strong women putting their all into their work, and their dedication truly paid off. The NHS Girls’ Volleyball Team will be one to keep an eye out for in coming seasons! Congratulations!
